In 1993, the Unicorn Thrift Shop started as a tiny store in Almaden Valley, founded by a handful of women who wanted to make a meaningful difference in their community. More than 30 years later, the shop has grown, with more than 80 active volunteers sharing their time, talents and expertise.
Today, as part of Pacific Clinics, Unicorn Thrift Shop continues that tradition of community service, with proceeds supporting the agency’s Bay Area programs and its mission to help children, adults and families achieve health and well-being. To date, the shop has raised nearly $5 million to support this important work.
From 1925 to the late 1950s, Ming Quong Homes provided a safe haven for more than 400 Chinese and Chinese American girls. Founded through the efforts of missionary Donaldina Cameron, the home grew out of earlier rescue work in San Francisco’s Chinatown and expanded to multiple campuses to meet changing needs, including the Los Gatos site, which opened in 1934. Over time, Ming Quong expanded to serve children of all races, creeds and genders. In 1987, it merged with Eastfield Children’s Home, beginning a series of changes that eventually led to Pacific Clinics today. Its legacy of care, education and opportunity continues.
With donations from the community and the efforts of more than 80 active volunteers, we have raised nearly $5 million for Pacific Clinics since opening in 1993. Our shop offers a fantastic selection of goods all at great prices, as well as a community-friendly atmosphere. All proceeds support children’s mental health and family supportive services in Santa Clara County.

Our shop is run entirely by dedicated volunteers, ranging from students to retirees. They help sort donations, assist customers, and curate special collections — all with warmth, kindness and a shared commitment to Pacific Clinics.
